German Village

Mr. B and Mr. W were looking to create a quiet retreat from their busy professional lives in their German Village backyard. We worked together to create a garden that creates spaces for dining, relaxing and swimming, while screening nearby windows and patios. The garden was featured in the 2022 German Village House und Garden Tour.

We loved working with Ethan for our landscape design. He took our ideas and improved them to create an amazing space that was approved quickly by the German Village Commission… We would highly recommend Ethan for your projects.

Our home garden in Clintonville is where we try out new design ideas and plant combinations. It is a combination of living space, vegetable gardens and play areas. We wanted to create a space where we can garden and relax and play with our family. We designed a large vegetable and cutting garden and a fence made of fruit trees and vines.

Mr. and Mrs. R were looking to design the landscape around their home after a recent remodel. They had lived in the home for 50 years, and while they loved the home, the close proximity to neighbors and exposure to the street provided design challenges. The couple wanted to create a sense of privacy despite close proximity to neighbors and a road cutting through the property. We worked together to develop a plan for a series of gardens around the home that allow Mr. and Mrs. R. to relax comfortably and privately. The various gardens have blooms and color throughout the year, and create increasing levels of enclosure and privacy as you move toward the back of the property.

“We have had the pleasure to work with Ethan on many different projects in creating our gardens… From imagining a garden to a design, Ethan can take your ideas to a reality greater then you can imagine. There is no project to small or large.

 Bexley

The homeowners were looking for a new front yard for their Georgian style home in Bexley.  They had just added a new rain harvesting system to collect water from their roof for an irrigation system and needed to hide the access points to the underground tanks.  They also wanted to add a passenger drop-off, front entry patio and fountain to the front of the property.

We worked together to develop a plan that met their needs and provide beauty and change throughout the year while keeping with the style of the home.  This project was the recipient of an Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association Award, and a home on the CLA garden tour.

Modern Rain Garden

Mr. C and Mrs. M, both architects and teachers, were looking to add outdoor living space to their backyard. They had added a contemporary addition to the back of their home, and were looking for a way to transition from inside the home to living space in the backyard. They were also interested in capturing rain water from their roof and dealing with it sustainably.

We worked together to design a deck that transitions from the interior space into an outdoor living area surrounded by gardens. A gravel patio provided additional area for seating and a durable surface for their dog Many to run on. A long runnel moves water from the downspouts into the rain garden where it can be discharge back into the groundwater. The space is often used for parties which spill over easily from inside to outside.

Native Landscape

The owner of this home wanted to create a new landscape full of native plants.  The garden includes a wide variety of native flowers and grasses.  We have worked together over the last few years to install the garden in phases.
